Bierlein & City of Midland Collab on 2020 Flood Damaged Houses
We officially began demolition of the first property acquired through the City’s flood buyback program. The program, a $4.2 million initiative through the FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), reimburses the City for the acquisition of properties containing at-risk structures, including those damaged or destroyed due to an event such as that in May 2020; removal of those structures; and restoration of those lands so that they may be maintained as open space. The goals: Provide relief to property owners impacted by the 2020 dam failures while simultaneously reducing flood risk to the community as a whole.
